In this week's Creative Blog I wanted to share an exercise I read about in a book from class called Caffeine for the Creative Mind by (Stefan Mumaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield). The creative exercise was called Debate This. This exercise talks about verbal communication and how it is essential in creativity. For this exercise I was tasked with debating myself on the topic Is it OK to be naked in front of your pets? Write down five pros and cons.
Pros
Comfort in your home- being able to feel free in your own home and space.
Pets don't judge - animals don't perceive nudity as strange or inappropriate.
Body confidence practice- Being naked around non-judgmental creatures like pets might help some people become more body-positive.
No risk of offending them- Pets aren’t offended or confused by your lack of clothes they process your scent and voice more than your appearance.
Natural bonding- Some people feel that being more natural around their pets strengthens bonds. Because pets are technically naked themselves.
Cons
Claws and Skin- bare skin is more vulnerable to scratches if a dog or cat jumps up at you.
Awkward if guests see- It’s easy to forget you’re not dressed when letting your dog out or answering the door. Pets can create distractions that lead to accidental exposure.
Inappropriate behavior triggers- Some pets might react oddly to exposed skin like sniffing, licking, or getting overly curious in ways that could be uncomfortable for you.
Training confusion- If you’re doing training or commands, some pets may associate different body language or scents with certain behaviors like nudity.
Hygiene Concerns- more skin exposure could mean more direct contact with fur or drool.
