Fog Effect

For this weeks teach me I created a quick fog effect in after effects.

Social Media Post 2

For this week's second social media post, I decided to do my own spin on an upcoming horror movie trailer would be great for Facebook as a platform. I created a fog effect for the background and played with the text so that it looks like it fogs in and out of the trailer.

Twitch Social Media Post 1

For this week's first social media post, I decided to do a live stream of me gaming and incorporating my explosion effect I showed in class on Wednesday. I think this video would be great for Twitch as a platform since it has to do with gaming, and when I exported it, I made sure that it fit the proper aspect ratio of 16:9 at 1920x1080 and 30fps.

10 things learned from Pixar in a box

10 things learned from Pixar in a box

  1. I learned how in the art of storytelling the story comes first and how Pixar emphasizes how every story starts with a strong emotional core and how characters face different challenges.

  2. I also learned how in storytelling many Pixar films are based on personal experiences of the creators in some way.

  3. Lighting is by far one of the most important roles in the film because it helps guide the audience's focus and create the mood in many scenes. For example soft lighting can help set the mood for a romantic or gentle scene.

  4. Lighting can help communicate different things like key lighting will help highlight the importance of a character.

  5. Color helps set the scene as well, warm colors like orange and red evoke energy or excitement.

  6. Pixar uses color palettes to support storytelling. By adjusting hue, saturation, and brightness to influence how the viewer feels throughout the movie.

  7. Mostly all Pixar films are animated but it was cool how the cameras used in the software do a really good job on how they mimic real world cameras used in film.

  8. I learned how Pixar uses a lot of film ideas we use in some of our favorite real life movies and use it in animated films like zooming, panning and depth of field and different angles to show hierarchy.

  9. When it comes to patterns Pixar uses repeating shapes, colors and textures to make their film seem more realistic.

  10. Patterns help lead the viewer's eye to important elements on screen without having to force the process.

Project 3

For this project, I was working on using text animation and incorporating it into my video, and using the range selector values. I learned how to insert ease in and ease out to different keyframes in different positions. I also threw in a company logo I created in Photoshop to help the video.

Project 2

For this project, I was working on using Liquid text animation and incorporating it into my video, and using effects to enhance the video and give it a cool water-like effect. I learned how to insert different keyframes in different positions. I gave my turbulent displacement effect to my text.

Project 1

For this project, I was working on using vector art/ animation and incorporating it into my video, and using effects to enhance storytelling in this short clip I created of a man sleeping and suddenly waking up to 3 banging sounds. The clip has no audio, but the animation helps put everything together.  I learned how to export my vector images from Illustrator and bring them into After Effects.

Week 2 Creativity

In this week’s Creative Blog, I’d like to share a fun exercise we did in class, inspired by a video from Stefan Mumaw. The activity, called "What’s Next?" This challenged us to stretch our creative thinking. The task was simple, imagine finding a tape recorder on the ground. When you press play, it delivers a message, and then it’s up to you to come up with a series of one-sentence scenarios describing what the recorder might say next.

This is a list I made for this exercise.

  1. Don't move, they are watching you.

  2. Take this tape recorder and destroy it.

  3. This tape will now self-destruct in 5 seconds.

  4. Look behind you.

  5. It's time you know what to do.

  6. If you're hearing this, the plan is in motion.

  7. Jump up on one leg and rub your tummy simultaneously.

  8.  Quick, go listen to your favorite song.

  9. Scream like a psycho.

  10. I know what you did last summer.

  11. What's your favorite scary movie?

  12. Everything you know is a lie.

  13. Take the blue pill or the red pill. The choice is yours.

It was a great way to explore spontaneous storytelling and push the boundaries of imagination.

Week 1 Creativity

In this week's Creative Blog I wanted to share an exercise we all did in class while watching a video by Stefan Mumaw. The creative exercise was called Medieval Kids Meal? This exercise takes a spin on a normal kids meal we all have grown to know in some of our favorite fast food restaurants growing up. The task is within 2 minutes to try to write down as many ideas a kids meal would probably have during the medieval era.

This is a list of my ideas for this exercise.

  1. A turkey leg

  2. A helmet

  3. king/queen crown

  4. Shield

  5. Axe

  6. Wooden horse

  7. A straw or cloth doll

  8. A pitch of ale or mug

  9. Wooden dragon

  10. A lance

  11. Bow and Arrow

This was a great exercise. Once the timer started I took off with ideas but after the first 30 seconds I slowed down with ideas that weren't as obvious.

Project 6

For this assignment, I decided to show what I learned about creating a rough cut since I missed that class, with the videos I was assigned in the parody project, I did my own take on a rough cut.

For this week's video I learned how to develop a rough cut with multiple videos to create a sequence.

I first started in the project panel by importing my videos I would be using.

To make the shots larger you can use the zoom slider at the bottom of the project panel screen.

Then as you hover over each video you can scrub and get an idea of what the video will show.

You could also select the clip and move the soiree scroll forward and back then hit the space bar to start and stop the preview of the selected video clip.

You could also use the L key to play forward if you press l again it will play at double the speed.

The K key will stop the clip.

The J key will play back the clip and if the J key is pressed once more it will play back at double the speed.

I Key will make an in point and O key to make an outpoint.

Week 4 Creativity

In this week's Creative Blog I wanted to share an exercise I read about in a book from class called Caffeine for the Creative Mind by (Stefan Mumaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield). The creative exercise was called Is that a Paisley  Screensaver? This exercise talks about how we are surrounded with patterns in our everyday life that we don't even notice or pay mind to. But also how patterns have order and give us order. I was tasked with locating patterns and taking some pictures of the patterns I found in my everyday life.

Week 3 Creativity

In this week's Creative Blog I wanted to share an exercise I read about in a book from class called Caffeine for the Creative Mind by (Stefan Mumaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield). The creative exercise was called Debate This. This exercise talks about verbal communication and how it is essential in creativity. For this exercise I was tasked with debating myself on the topic Is it OK to be naked in front of your pets? Write down five pros and cons.

Pros

  1. Comfort in your home- being able to feel free in your own home and space.

  2. Pets don't judge - animals don't perceive nudity as strange or inappropriate.

  3. Body confidence practice- Being naked around non-judgmental creatures like pets might help some people become more body-positive.

  4. No risk of offending them- Pets aren’t offended or confused by your lack of clothes they process your scent and voice more than your appearance.

  5. Natural bonding- Some people feel that being more natural around their pets strengthens bonds. Because pets are technically naked themselves.

Cons

  1. Claws and Skin- bare skin is more vulnerable to scratches if a dog or cat jumps up at you.

  2. Awkward if guests see- It’s easy to forget you’re not dressed when letting your dog out or answering the door. Pets can create distractions that lead to accidental exposure.

  3. Inappropriate behavior triggers- Some pets might react oddly to exposed skin like sniffing, licking, or getting overly curious in ways that could be uncomfortable for you.

  4. Training confusion- If you’re doing training or commands, some pets may associate different body language or scents with certain behaviors like nudity.

  5. Hygiene Concerns- more skin exposure could mean more direct contact with fur or drool.

Creativity Week 2

In this week's Creative Blog, I wanted to share an exercise I read about in a book from class called Caffeine for the Creative Mind by Stefan Mumaw and Wendy Lee Oldfield. The creative exercise was called Is that Hairnet Real? This creative exercise talks about how there are magnificent memorials to honor those of military service or those who have done great deeds. In this exercise, I was tasked with creating a memorial for three everyday heroes, like an elementary school bus driver, a hotel housekeeper, and a high school cafeteria worker.

My idea of a memorial would be to set it in a public park or garden for all to see, and it would probably consist of a life-size bronze statue capturing an action from their everyday life. A school bus driver standing beside an open bus door with one hand raised in a friendly wave as if greeting the children they pick up every morning. A hotel housekeeper adjusting a freshly made bed, head slightly looking down in focus and care. Her presence shows pride in unnoticed labor done with excellence. Lastly, a high school cafeteria worker leaning over a serving line, perhaps offering a tray with a smile, her eyes meeting an unseen student’s with kindness.
